Educator Talk: Oliver Wendell Petrie, Erie Canal Cook

Join us for a delicious event and learn about Oliver Wendell Petrie, Erie Canal Cook, at the historic Pratt House Museum.

This event is FREE. All are welcome to attend.

Talk Description
Oliver Wendell Petrie, a native of Oswego, NY, served for three years as a cook on board an oil tanker moving along the modern Barge Canal.

This Educator Talk from the Erie Canal Museum explores Oliver Petrie’s time on the canals, and provides a unique look into the New York State Barge Canal and the late 1930s in general.

Light refreshments will be available, including a special treat made by members of the Friends, right from Oliver’s recipe book!

Derrick Pratt, Director of Education & Public Programs at the Erie Canal Museum, will lead the discussion.

J.W. Pratt House Museum
Thank you to the Friends of History for hosting the event at the Pratt House Museum! John Wells Pratt House, also known as Pratt House Museum, is a historic home and museum located in Fulton, New York. Built in 1863, it is a large two story residence in the Italianate style.
